A debate on the future of antitrust has flared up in recent years. Numerous ideas are shared to improve antitrust law research and practice. Some experts call for a return to long gone solutions, and others argue for giving a try to new perspectives. In this article, I will try to briefly present the role played in this debate by one particularly intriguing perspective: complexity science. In the following three sections, I will introduce the reasons for the currently increasing interest in this area of study, the intellectual history that led to the creation of this research program, and the importance ascribed to it in the 21st-century debate on the future of competition law and policy. There is still a need for a more in-depth analysis of the propositions presented by competition law initiatives applying complexity science to dynamic competition processes of the digital economy. I plan to develop it in the coming article prepared for publication in this journal.
